{mosimage}So many people say to us ‘Aren’t you scared about rowing across the Atlantic?’ and our answers are often different. Lin always says no and Rachel’s answer is always yes a bit. But what really scares us both is the thought of not being able to make the fund raising target. We have set ourselves a really tough target of £100,000 for Breast Cancer Care and we are scared of not getting there but sometimes things happen that really boosts our confidence. The amount of support we’ve had producing marketing and promotional material, which adds so much to the credibility of our campaign, has been fantastic.TDA designed our mailing pack, t3 designed our flyers and exhibition panels, Allied Print printed our flyers, C3 printed our exhibition panels and banner, Cyclone Printing printed our mailing pack and Saltwater Communications have handled our PR campaign and produced our website for us. That’s quite an impressive team to have supporting our challenge and we really want to show that all that work has been worth it. Since the last Blog update, we’ve had another phenomenal addition to contribute towards the visibility of our campaign and that has come in the form of a 4x4. Not just any old 4x4 though, this is a very impressive SsangYong Rexton which has been given a new image with ours and SsangYong’s logos. To find out more about the car, go to www.syukcars.co.uk or if you see us out and about, and let’s face it, it’s hard to miss us in this car, stop us and ask about it. We also carry enquiry cards and brochures you can take away with you. Of course having a car like that for towing our boat around (when we get it) is fantastic but it comes with added costs – Insurance! So another appeal for help was speedily answered by Academy Insurance Services Ltd in Swindon – thank you guys. Well the timing of the delivery of ‘The Monster Truck’, as she’s been named, couldn’t have been better. The very next weekend we had a fun day that Lin’s Sister Nicky had organised in Kings Nympton, North Devon, at which we were to take the Atlantic4 Ocean Rowing Boat (the one we’re buying) so that friends, family and visitors could see close up what we’re going to be living on at sea! So Lin took to the road and collected the boat from Kemble Airfield in Cirencester and towed it all the way to North Devon (very narrow country lanes – breath in!). As Lin hadn’t towed anything for quite a lot of years – she doesn’t really want to say how many, her Dad, John, very kindly offered to follow her all the way to make sure she was doing OK. Thankfully the feedback was brilliant and coming from someone with as much driving experience as John, that had to be a great boost of confidence. The fun day got underway on the Saturday with lots of things to do including Apple Bobbing, Coconut Shy, Hook A Duck, Balloon Race, Darts Game, Bouncy Castle, Sumo, Gladiators, Live Band ‘Spoken Four’ from Chulmleigh Community College, Didgeridoo Demonstrations from Pete Blayney, a visit from Devon Fire & Rescue and lots more, so many people put so much work into providing a great fun day for all who turned up. The day was also Lin’s nephew Patrick’s 18th Birthday, so the party continued on into the night with friends and family enjoying the BBQ, music from John’s car and a little bit of fun with the helium (20 people singing happy birthday with lungs full of the stuff was very funny – not recommended though as it goes against all the warnings!!!). Then on the Sunday Lin had to take to the road again with the boat behind and without Dad’s support (he was heading off to Newquay for his holidays – we think he likes watching the surf chicks really!). This time Lin was heading for Hamble Point Marina where the boat would stay for a week ready for us to take to the salt water for our first sea trial. More about that next time though. {mosimage}Until then, Rachel and Lin would like to send out a huge thank you to all of the people we have behind the scenes supporting us and helping us with our Challenge. Without you, we would really be struggling to get this campaign going. Do we see a big celebration party at the end of all this – we think so….
