On 22 June the New Cross Singers sang their support of the Atlantic Rowing Challenge in the form of a 2 hour sponsored singing marathon held at Ormskirk Street United Reformed Church!
St Helens based choir, the New Cross Singers tackled the challenge with gusto, singing their way to a grand total of £900 towards the fundraising total. In just over 2 hours, they sang their hearts out through 50 boating and watery songs, but also threw in the Rowers favourite hymn's for good measure! Alan Free led the group and played piano, while normal organist Ernie Howard joined in the singing to help out. Adjudicator Wallace Holden kept a keen eye on the clock and the song list to make sure there was no slacking. The singers have made a huge contribution to the challenge and should give themselves a big pat on the back. We'd also like to thank Janet Holden, Rachel's mum, for researching all the songs and helping to pull the event together. As a reminder, £15 enables Breast Cancer Care to send out vital fact sheets and leaflets to 30 people in desperate need of information. £35 gives someone the chance to benefit from their one to one helpline service and £65 means another opportunity for advice to be passed on from their Ask the Nurse service. The New Cross Singers are pictured below with their Atlantic Rowing Challenge leaflets.
