The journey will start on 2 December 2007 in La Gomera, Canary Islands, taking almost 3,000 miles and 70-100 days to finally reach Antigua. The women are embarking on this challenge of a lifetime in order to raise £100,000 for Breast Cancer Care.

In the exceptional event that anything does go wrong, Lin and Rachel are certain to be in safe hands as Avon is recognised for its ability to provide first class liferafts. Avon has had more successful rescues than any other brnd, including the longest liferaft survival in history - an impressive 117 days.

The need for a liferaft and appropriate equipment brought home the seriousness of the potential danger of the challenge. The liferaft must also be equipped with an Atlantic Rowing Race pack which include leak stopper, sea anchor and torch to name just a few items. All this equipment is necessary as during the challenge the team will be faced with some of hte toughest conditions in an unpredictable environment and need to be prepared for any eventuality.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women in this country. Each year there are nearly 42,000 new cases in the UK alone. The £100,000 that Lin and Rachel are hoping to raise for Breast Cancer Care will ensure that the good and much needed work of the charity can continue.
