ImageThe next steps… no looking back now!

Now the dust has settled from our challenge launch last month, it’s given us the chance to sit back, put our feet up (mentally if not physically!) and regroup for the next round!

Since our last entry, we’ve had plenty to do in following up the media and sponsorship leads that we generated at the show. We’ve also started our press cuttings list, to help prove to our slowly growing list of sponsors that we really do mean business and can produce the column inches.

Our next big event is the England v Samoa rugby match on 26th November. A great fundraising opportunity, but unfortunately falling on the same weekend as this year’s Woodvale race start – scuppering (get me with the nearly nautical terms!) our plans to go to La Gomera to wave off Sally, the Rowgirls and the other competitors.

Our website is in development and we’re releasing details of the different sponsorship packages available. We’d like to think there’s something for everyone and that we’ve come up with some interesting ideas for what the sponsor gets in return – something more than the normal ‘logo on our boat’ approach.

Lots of people have asked if we’re frightened of the big waves, sharks and the confines of an ocean rowing boat. But to be honest, we both believe that while the thought is pretty scary, the most frightening bit right now is the fundraising – or rather, the maybe not fundraising!

It’s something very new to us and although lots of people have every confidence that we’ll make the target – the fear of not making the right amount creeps up when you least expects it and shouts down your ear!

Having said that, we have had some good news. The nice legal-eagles at DWF Solicitors have become our first Bronze sponsors. Angela Bithell Jones and Homelet UK are going to keep us afloat with life jacket spares and keep us healthy with sea sickness tablets.

We’ve even had our first few Land Crew members sign up – paying £25 to have their name inside the boat and to receive regular updates on our progress. In total, we think we’re around 2% to our target amount so far!

But we’re on the way and there’s no turning back now. We have to replace moments of fear with positive thinking and finding solutions.
