Things are a little quiet on the boat at the moment – even between the two of us. Probably due to the desperation to just get there now and us constantly thinking about the things we’re looking forward to when we reach land. Also in our own minds, we’re reflecting on what we have done so far and how we can use the experience in the future – whether to further our careers or to take on a complete change of direction – who knows where this will lead us.
Shortly after the blog was sent yesterday, Lin spotted a dark patch in one of the waves and quietly said to Rachel to get a camera ready. The reason Lin spoke quietly is because we think we may have scared some wildlife off with our excited shouts to the other in the past.
Very quickly the dark patch was spotted again and yes, we had whales visiting us again. There were at least two of them and they were swimming around and under the boat again for around ½ hour. This time, Rachel managed to get some great photos too.

We spent the night drifting again last night and managed to not lose any ground in our North/South fight and made gradual progress towards the West. We started out rowing again this morning and were making good ground North (not too far to go to be on target but would like to be at 17 degrees North if possible at this stage) but by lunch time, that seems to have changed and we’re heading South again. This gets so frustrating, especially when you spend all day fighting sideways onto the waves only to find we’re not going in the direction we’re rowing in! Still, so long as we continue to go West, the rest will hopefully even out nearer the finish.
We spoke to Elin & Herdip on Dream Maker again today to see if they were ok. They’re not too far away from us and are experiencing the same frustrations but they seem to be in really good spirits today and like us are just plugging away at it.
Messages:-
Mission Atlantic & Komale – congratulations to you all, we heard you finished today. Have fun in Antigua and we look forward to seeing you at the presentations.
Rachel’s Mum – Thank you so much for sorting out our flights home – let’s hope everything now goes to plan!
Jo McKelvey – Thank you so much for sorting out the flights, accommodation etc. for Lin’s Dad & Son and for Rachel’s Mum – we so wish you were coming out too but look forward to seeing you when we get back.
Emma Finn – We like the idea of Champagne ballast – not sure the race rules would be changed for that though. However, our boat should be loads lighter now we’re nearly there, just a few more bottles to get through!!! Hic!!
Fi & Tim – We look forward to meeting your manager Chris in Antigua. Can’t wait to see you guys in Brixham too.
Christina @ BCC – Thank you for your updates – it’s great to hear there’s been nearly 2.5k donated online since we set off. Please pass on our best wishes to all at Breast Cancer Care – their messages have been great.
Lin’s Mum – thank you for trying to research fishies and other wildlife for us. Look forward to seeing you when we get home.
Love and Hugs to you all from Lin & Rachel |
