We had the great news last night from Caroline in Antigua, that we have just 550 n/miles left to go. This means that we have rowed over 2,000 n/miles so far – we still find it amazing that we’ve been able to do this. It doesn’t matter how many people tell us we’re awesome, brave, courageous etc. we think we’re just regular ordinary people living our dream.

Of course the news meant another ¼ bottle of champers with the next one due when we have just 500 n/miles left to go. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were really excited about getting to the 500n/mile mark and now we only have that much left to go – wow!

The conditions are pretty rough at the moment and difficult to row in, so most of the time we’re sitting and steering. At night we tie off the steering after pointing the boat in the direction we would like her to go and then we settle down to listen to a couple of episodes of Black Adder on Rachel’s IPOD and then off to sleep.

{mosimage}Yesterday we had another visit from support yacht Kilcullen –they had to keep a greater distance from us this time due to the rough seas but it’s always great to catch up with them and we always feel that we’re being looked after well having their support there for us all. After they visited us, they went on to see our great friends Elin & Herdip on Dream Maker – we’re kind of hoping we all get to Antigua at the same time so we can spend some time together before we head home.

In the middle of the night, our sleep was interrupted by the crackle of the VHF Radio from a ship called Originator. He was actually speaking to Dream Maker (although we couldn’t hear Dream Maker on the radio) at the time but we knew that it meant he wouldn’t be too far from us too. Lin popped her head out of the cabin and confirmed she could see the ship in the distance. So Rachel got on the radio to Originator and spoke to a very polite gentleman who took our position and said he’d ensure he would steer a different course if there was a risk of him getting too close.

We awoke this morning to find ourselves pretty much back on course, having drifted back South to 17 degrees North. Although we’re still moving slightly South, we’re still heading mainly West so not too worried about the drift at the moment.

We’ve spoken to Jaydubyoo today and it appears there some really bad weather nearer to the finish so we’re going to make the most of the conditions we have carrying us West right now.

Messages:

Alpa – can’t wait to see the little pink paper boat that Warren has. Great to know there’s support in the office.

Chris Bailey – funny you should mention the red buoys, we were talking about that yesterday too.

Dave Evans – hopefully we’ll get to see some of the 6 Nations in Antigua – can’t believe you’re supporting Wales though!!!!

Amanda & Mark Huttley – hey great to hear from you in NZ – great to have you onboard!

Paul & Steve (The Reason Why) – We’re really looking forward to the warm Antiguan welcome. See you back in Blighty guys.

Sharon & Pete Birch – we’d love to be able to get in on the 15th and celebrate Pete’s 50th Birthday but Rachel’s Mum is arriving then so we will have to leave it until the 16th. We’ll surely find some spare champers to toast Pete’s birthday at sea though!

Love and Hugs to you all from Lin & Rachel
