After days and days of huge waves, the waves just get bigger and the wind stronger. Yesterday was particularly trying as we both keep getting doused with water day and night – with no way to dry kit off, due to the lack of sun, it doesn’t make for a pleasurable time. Sally, what happened to ‘just take some long sleeved tee shirts for night time’? We’re still wearing winter woolies down here!
But we resolved to push on and keep our targets in sight. We know we’re making good progress and the conditions will change sometime. Even today we’ve had some sun and been able to run the watermaker for a decent time and charge a couple of other things too.

Today’s entertainment has been to list the things we’re most missing – Antigua welcome party, please take note!

1. Cold bottled water – the desalinated stuff is brackish and leaves a nasty taste in your mouth. Without doubt, a bottle of cold water is the first thing we want in Antigua.
2.
Cold beer – had to be on the list somewhere, we’ll have this right after the water!
3.
Fresh fruit – really missing some fresh food, and can’t wait to see our first mango.
4.
Fresh salad – as above, we’re craving crisp, crunch salad stuff like you wouldn’t believe!
5.
Bread – who cares if it’s unhealthy, bring on a fresh white loaf.
6.
Cheese – to go with the bread of course.
7.
Ice Cream – we found a great ice cream shop in La Gomera and are hoping there’s another in Antigua.
8.
Roast dinner – mmmmm!
9.
Ice cold diet coke – to follow the beer maybe!
10.
McDonalds – yup, really. We are actually craving a McDonalds meal right now!

The other thing that has kept our spirits up over the last few days is the number of messages we’re receiving from people with or recovering from breast cancer, and their families and friends. One lady told us that what we’re doing is giving her mum hope and strength – we both cried when we read that. I guess you have to remember that we are doing this for Breast Cancer Care and have already raised over thirty thousand pounds for them. We also want to raise awareness of their services – so please help us out and take a look at their website today (www.breastcancercare.org.uk) and even pass it on to someone who might benefit.

So I’m off out on deck for another dousing – I hope your new year is going well and the snow isn’t too bad!

Love & hugs, Rachel & Lin
