We’ve been rowing non stop over Christmas and it looks set to continue over the New Year. Although the 2 hours on/off routine is exhausting, it seems to be working well for us – bar the odd oversleeping incidence. And an alarm clock that is worse than useless. We’re going to have a ritual smashing up of the clock in Antigua – you just can’t get the blooming thing to go off at the right time and it has caused no end of confusion in the night!
We’ve had a couple of calmer days – still big seas, but calmer than before. Although we seem to be sitting in the middle of a depression with complete cloud cover which is not helping our power problems at all. It also means that we still only have water for drinking, so are getting closer to finding out whether your hair really does start cleaning itself after 6 weeks!

There’s been a few questions in from our supporters, answers are below:

Katriona – Fearne & Reggie have been keeping a low profile in the last couple of days, but still creep up to make us jump by flying in front of our faces in the night. We haven’t seen Treacle lately, but heard that there’s a squirrel in Chester called Delia who wants to know if he’s single?! Biggles the fish made it back into the big blue in the nick of time and we see them all flying across the surface regularly. We also think we’ve got a couple of fish living under the boat.

Texts – the best way to contact us is a text via the Iridium website. Details are on the contact us page of our site. But remember that the 160 characters includes your email address, so don’t run out too soon and miss the last bit off your message. Syd, this goes for all your messages!

Hygiene – we don’t have any spare water to wash in, but brought over 3,000 baby wipes with us to make sure that we can keep clean and tidy every day. We’ve also perfected brushing our teeth without water! Although we are wearing clothes over and over again, they seem to be doing OK – but we do have clean stuff for arrival in Antigua just in case anyone is worried! But we are just longing for a bath or shower as soon as we get there, together with food eaten from a plate and a bed that doesn’t move!

Hilary – yes your texts are getting through and we love getting them.  Debra, your messages are truly inspirational and encouraging and it’s great to know we have you out here with us.

Bruce – great to hear from you after such a long time, check out the Met Police 4 man crew racing too.

To everyone else, we now received over 300 messages and they are the highlight of our day – we write all of them in our book so we can look back and remember all the great things people sent us. As always, please keep them coming.

Anyway, Happy New Year to you all and we’re really jealous that you’ll all be partying while we row some more! But we hope to raise a thermos cup of champagne at midnight GMT tonight to share the start of 2008 with you all.

Love & hugs, Rachel and Lin
