Apologies for the delay in your first update, but it’s taken a couple of days to get over the sea sickness and and try for some sort of routine!
{body}We’re currently sitting on our sea anchor (9am) – we put it out around 6am when the wind picked up and made it too difficult to row in the dark. So we’re waiting to see if it flattens off before pulling in the anchor and letting the boat go! We had a good start on Sunday and headed out on exactly the bearing we wanted to. Within just a few hours, you couldn’t see any other boats at all. {mosimage} We rowed together for 6 hours bar fixing our watermaker (thanks George!) but sticking your head into a greasy hatch will bring on the inevitable. We both had sea sickness for the first 48 hours, but it seems to have passed now. That night, after we were visited by a pod of dolphins, a squall blew up so we stayed on anchor all night – the safest thing to do with islands around! But we set off early on Monday and rowed a full 24 hours. About 10pm we were visited by dolphins again, but much closer this time – they were playing around and under the boat! Yesterday and last night were full on rowing too – bar a short break when we spotted the support yacht Kilcullen and called them up on the radio. They came over for a visit and updated us on some of the other crews – but we don’t really know much about how the race is unfolding yet. Anyway, that’s all for now and we’ll try to sent some pics home soon. Thanks to all those who have already texted in messages, it’s great to know that we have your support. Thanks, Rachel & Lin xx {/body} Position:N 27.04.25.7W 017.53.22.8 |
